Aurora expands fleet with the Aurora Quest

Aurora Marine’s 2nd dedicated net cleaning vessel, Aurora Quest, has had a busy time since its delivery in March.
The new boat, built by Norwegian partnership Marin Design AS and Viknaslipen AS at their partner yard Poltramp in Poland, has been dedicated to cleaning nets for Cooke Aquaculture in Shetland’s north isles. Covering sites around the islands of Unst, Yell and Fetlar it has met their demands for more frequent, chemical free cleaning.
Fitted with a larger MPI (Multi Pump Innovation) system than original boat Aurora and driven by a 500hp Volvo D13, it is capable of running two Ronc systems simultaneously.
Co-founder and director of Aurora Marine Colin Leask said: “This allows more cleaning discs with larger nozzles, resulting in fast cleans, but of course a larger pump requires a larger engine… resulting in three times the fuel consumption.
“So although the new system is larger it also has drawbacks, but I suppose there’s a system to suit each customer’s demands at the end of the day.”
The new boat has allowed Aurora to take on net cleaning contracts with Scottish Sea Farms and Grieg Seafoods.
